EXPLANATION OF HIRING PROCEDURES

L.I.F.E., Inc. is a private, non-profit agency that operates group homes under contract with the state and federal government, for individuals with developmental disabilities.  Very generally stated, the purpose of our programs is to provide safe, secure, supportive services, while assisting individuals with disabilities to become as capable as they can, to do as many things for themselves as possible, and to assist them with becoming integrated into the community at large.

The agency is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer and recruits, hires, and promotes qualified employees without regard to race, creed, color, age, sex, handicap, religion, or national origin.  Preferred basic pre-employment qualifications for direct support positions includes the attainment of a high school diploma or equivalency, having a valid driver’s license with a driving record that will allow our insurance company to consider you insurable, an ability to properly record results of program efforts, and the capacity to perform essential job functions.  However, overall life experience will be taken into account when assessing a candidate’s application for employment.

Although each of our programs and consumers are uniquely different in many ways, there does exist commonality in regard to the supportive work involved.  Included in this is the fact that most supportive service positions would have a person work afternoon (traditional 2nd shift) or overnight (3rd shift), and in day program positions, daytime (1st shift) hours.

We run ads periodically to maintain an active file of applicants.  Once an applicant indicates their availability, shift preference, etc., the application is processed.  Our Personnel Department will review the applications and set up initial interviews according to agency openings, applicant availability, shift preference, and desire for full or part-time.  Upon completion of the initial interview, applications will be forwarded to the directors of our various programs.  The manager will contact those applicants who appear best suited for the position(s) available, and a follow-up interview arranged.

The interview will be conducted, outlining specific schedule and providing applicants with more information regarding residents and job responsibilities for that program.

You will be notified by mail if you are interviewed and are not selected for a specific position.  All applications are kept on file.  Depending on such things as positions available and your availability, each applicant is advised that they may be called nearly immediately by one or more managers for an interview, or they may not receive a call for an extended period of time.  It is not necessary to call us at any time during this process, as we will retain all applications on an active file status.

Upon receiving an offer of employment, you will be asked to complete some important assignments during the intended six (6) month evaluation period. Upon completion of the evaluation phase of employment status, those employees who are scheduled into at least a 30 hour per week (or more) position will be eligible to receive benefits.  This includes health and dental insurance, sick/medical leave and annual leave benefits.  Benefit package also includes a pension plan, 401K, and TSA, available upon completion of eligibility requirements.

All staff are eligible for premium pay for holiday time worked, and time and one-half for overtime beyond 40 hours per week.
