A note from the Executive Director -
Wednesday evening, October 14th, 2009 became yet another memorable date for the LIFE family. On this date, over 300 supported individuals, staff, families and community supporters gathered at the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center for our 22nd Annual Awards Celebration. This annual event has certainly become a highlight for many of us as we celebrate the accomplishments and appreciate the noteworthy contributions of some wonderful and deserving people. MaryAnn and I are truly thankful to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to share the evening with us. This year we continued with our more economical format with cocktails & hors d’oeuvres followed by our award presentations. This approach has allowed us to save on some expenses while still being able to enjoy a memorable event. We especially thank our food vendors and those who donated food items for helping us to keep expenses as low as possible.
Of course the most memorable part of the evening was the recognizing of our award recipients. We applaud all of our winners whose names are listed in this publication. We also thank everyone who helped with the planning and organizing the Celebration especially our Development & Training coordinator Diane Rodrigues. Sincere appreciation goes out to all of our employees, families and friends who helped to sell the cash and other raffle tickets and to our Table and Supported Individual sponsors. All of the net proceeds from these efforts are placed in the special needs account which pays for many things not otherwise covered by traditional funding sources.
Our program book for the evening listed our “milestone” employees of 5, 10, 15 & 20 years as well as those who contribute their time and talent by serving on our Human Rights Committee and Board of Trustees. We congratulate and thank all of those dedicated individuals for their participation in helping the agency to fulfill its mission and purpose. Of course we also congratulate the lucky folks who were the winners of our cash and other raffle prizes. In our remarks to everyone present, MaryAnn and I observed that we anticipate the coming year to be yet another difficult one relative to the government funding received by the individuals we are privileged to support. We thanked all who participated in the advocacy efforts undertaken this past year and asked people to continue those valuable efforts as needed. We will all look forward to next year’s event.
Sincerely,
Lawrence Wiedenhofer, Executive Director
